The Mountaineer Park HBPA’s mission is to foster a healthy economic and legislative climate, preserve the rights of its members and promote the sport of Thoroughbred Racing in West Virginia.
Mountaineer Park HBPA represents more than 1,400 members. Their investment in the thoroughbred racing industry contributes more than $93.3 million in business volume to the state’s economy. The thoroughbred racing industry provides more than 1,899 jobs directly and indirectly.
Our members own more than 25 farms in Hancock County and are a vital part of the local community. Behind the scenes of racing at Mountaineer Park is the backstretch. A community comprised of trainers, owners, jockeys, exercise riders, grooms, hotwalkers, veterinarians and farriers, who start work in the early morning hours and work seven days a week to care for these majestic animals known as thoroughbreds. This community takes care of its members through benevolence, retirement and healthcare programs.
The investment the men and women of thoroughbred racing have made in the state of West Virginia is enormous. They invested in breeding and racing stock and built barns, houses and businesses based on the promises the West Virginia Legislature made to protect and promote racing when they approved Racetrack Video Lottery. We are committed to preserving the tradition of thoroughbred racing in West Virginia.
We welcome your comments and support as we move forward. Please see the board members and committees listed on the board of directors page along with their contact information.
